In looking back on the history of the coolest music produced in the 60s, it is impossible not to recognize the memorable French melodies that mixed up beat, pop and jazz, giving life to the so-called Yé-Yé phenomenon.
One of the top female performers of this musical movement was France Gall, a young Parisian girl who enchanted everyone for years all over Europe after winning the Eurovision song contest in 1965 with the Serge Gainsbourg hit Poupée de cire, poupée de son.
Driven by both historical interest and a sincere love for this music, I recorded instrumental Surf versions of two songs that the unique style and voice of France Gall made famous.
Dedicated to Anne.
