Hi-Tide presents "Still Workin': The Best of Surfer Joe, Vol. 1" ft. 18 super-charged, reverb-drenched hits from the International Surf Music Ambassador Lorenzo Valdambrini with cover art by Grey Haas!
Released February 21, 2025
Lines notes by JOHN BLAIR:
Since the early 1960s, the roots of surf instrumental music have always been associated with Southern California. Yet, fave First Wavers with charted surf records, The Astronauts (“Baja”), were from Colorado and The Trashmen (“Surfin’ Bird”) were from Minnesota. Who would have thought that early in the 21st century, not only would instrumental surf music be internationally alive and well, but a musician from Italy would be the genre’s ambassador to the world? The music couldn’t have a better or more knowledgeable individual to bring instrumental surf music to the masses than Lorenzo Valdambrini, known professionally as Surfer Joe. If you’ve missed any of his earlier recordings over the last decade, here’s your chance to catch the best of the lot.
Liner notes by JONPAUL BALAK:
If there really is anyone that deserves to hold the title of “international surf music ambassador,” it’s Lorenzo Valdambrini. Fundamentally, the driving force behind his life’s ambitions is his profound love and respect for surf music. Layer on top of this impenetrable foundation incredible talent and skill, a tenacious work ethic, and a missionary’s zeal to have as many ears
hear and become touched by surf music as possible, and one finds a true inspiration–a leader–an icon. History will sort out who deserves to be remembered and respected as the most important artists of a genre. There is no doubt that the name Lorenzo Valdambrini will be included in that surf category, right alongside his heroes Dick Dale and The Astronauts.
ALL SONGS BY LORENZO "SURFER JOE" VALDAMBRINI
except:
"Black Sand Beach" (Yuzo Kayama)
"Avant La Bagarre" (Raffles Bernet, Guy Freidline)
ARTWORK: Grey Haas
